Hi,

We have a requirement in one of the projects to import the contents of 9i to 8i. Got the error message "IMP-00010
not a valid export file, header failed verification
". Can you please let me know if there is any workaround for this?

You must use the export of the lower version.

may be your dumpfile is corrupt.
Did someone try to edit it? or How was the FTP/transfer done?
Usually, you use the lower version of exp/imp to export and to import. What was the version of exp (that created dumpfile)?

Hi,

The dump is not corrupted as the file gets imported in a 9i database. The export file is of version 9i. The requirement is to get it imported on an 8i database. If there is no possibility to go for degradation in the import, can you let me know a relevant document for the same. It will help me in updating the project team.

If you want to import in a 8i database, you have to export with the 8i export binary.

I assume you did an export of this 9i database using an 9i version of imp.
So you need to install the 9i exp/imp views in the 8i database by running catexp.sql logged in as sys (From the 9i installation/oracle_home login as sys into 8i database and execute $9i_ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin/catexp.sql).
Now your 9i imp tool when connected to the 8i database will understand and use the appropriate exp/imp views.

PS:
Take a backup of catexp.sql@$8i_ORACLE_HOME.
If you want to use 8i exp/imp again,run this catexp.sql against the 8i database (Just undoing what we did above).

Yes I ran the catexp.sql of 9i in the 8i database but still I am facing the same error.

The dump is not corrupted
Then it is possible your dump file corrupted...please export again your database and try to import.

As per your previous postings,
You are supposed to use 9i version of imp (only for that reason we executed the catexp.sql).
But you are invoking 8i version.

This is wrong.
You have to export your 9i db with 8i binary.
This is the only solution to import in an 8i database.
