I have learnt the hard way that usually you cannot export an application from a higher version of APEX and import it into a lower version. Does anyone happen to know (or remember...) if that applies to minor patchset versions? Can I develop on 5.1.4 and export/import to 5.1.2? I know I can test, but it will take a long time to build the test bed. I don't have those versions available right now.

Thank you for any insight.

Metalink Doc ID = 825663.1 suggests that this is not possible. Though, that's an old document, dealing with 3.x, 4.x and 5.x.

5.1 documentation says
Quote:

Note that you cannot import an application created in a specific release into an earlier version.
Though, that's a really minor version difference (5.1.4 into 5.1.2) so I hope that it should work.

Have a look at this article (they were importing 18.x into 5.x).

I'd say that - if you apply the first suggestion they wrote: edit the P_RELEASE parameter value in the export SQL file, import *might* be fooled enough to make it work.

I don't know what bugs Oracle fixed from 5.1.2 to 5.1.4, but I don't expect anything crucial which would make import impossible.

Unfortunately, I don't have 5.x available any more so I can't test it myself. If you ever do that, please, post a short reply; I'm really interested in the outcome.

Good luck!

Thank you for those references, that article gives me a lot to go on. I'll try to get some tests done, but the situation is a bit awkward.
